Lopez Ramirez, Weed Both Named to Fall ANNIKA Award Watch List
November 12, 2024 | Women's Golf
COLUMBUS, Ga. – Julia Lopez Ramirez and Avery Weed have both been named to the Fall ANNIKA Award Watch List, the Haskins Foundation announced on Tuesday. This is the second time that two Bulldogs have been named to the watch list, as the duo is the first since Ally Ewing and Jessica Peng did so in 2015.
Â
Avery Weed had a breakout start to the season for the Bulldogs. The Ocean Springs native finished 11-under par in the fall, as she picked up a team-leading eight par or better rounds. The sophomore picked up a pair of individual victories at the Mason Rudolph Championship and The Ally.
Â
At the Mason Rudolph, Weed finished 13-under par after firing off two rounds in the 60s along with a 2-under par second round. This marked Weed's best finish versus par in her short career at Mississippi State. In State's final fall tournament and lone home event, The Ally, Weed excelled once again. She opened the tournament on fire, as she tied an NCAA record and set a program record for the lowest round in relation to par with an 11-under opening round. She would then go on to become the first Bulldog to ever win at their home tournament at 9-under.
Â
Julia Lopez Ramirez appeared in three tournaments for State during the fall season, finishing under par in every appearance she made. Lopez Ramirez boasted a pair of  top three finishes during the fall after earning a 2nd place finish at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational and a 3rd place finish at the Carmel Cup. She fired off four rounds in the 60s and six par or better rounds during the fall.
