Avery Weed Earns Second SEC Golfer of the Week Honor
October 30, 2024 | Women's Golf
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second time in her collegiate career, Avery Weed was named SEC Co-Golfer of the Week, the Southeastern Conference announced on Wednesday. The honor comes on the heels of Weed's performance in the Bulldog's home event, The Ally.
Â
Weed accomplished something at The Ally that no Bulldog in history had ever done. She finished the opening round at 11-under par, which tied an NCAA record of lowest score in relation to par in a single round. Weed became just the fifth player in the history of women's collegiate golf to shoot 11-under in a single round.
Â
In the opening day alone, Weed carded three birdies. No other golfer in the field picked up more than two eagles in three days of The Ally. On par-5 holes, Weed shot an impressive 10-under during the tournament, which was the best score on those holes in the entire field.
Â
Weed eventually went on to win the individual title at The Ally, becoming the first Bulldog to do such at State's home tournament. This was Weed's second career victory after winning the Mason Rudolph Championship. She became just the seventh golfer in program history to win multiple individual championships after her performance at The Ally.
Â
Weed and the Bulldogs wrapped up the fall season at The Ally. The spring season will begin when the Dawgs travel to Orlando, Florida, for the UCF Challenge on February 2.
