Bulldogs Shoot 5-Under In Final Round Of Fall
October 21, 2024 | Men's Golf
BILOXI, Miss. – No. 22 Mississippi State men's golf shot 5-under in the final round of the Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational to close the fall portion of its season. The Bulldogs placed sixth, carding even-par for the tournament.
Â
Josep Serra recorded seven birdies in a final round that saw him shoot a season-low, 4-under 68. After going 3-under at the turn, Serra was just 1-under through 14 holes; however, he carded birdies on three of his final four holes. That brought him to 1-under for the tournament, which was good for a tie for ninth.
Â
Serra's performance meant that at least one Bulldog finished inside the top 10 in three of State's four fall outings. It also marked the second time this year that Serra was MSU's top finisher after he was tied for 19th at the Valero Texas Collegiate.
Â
"I'm so proud of our guys and the way we finished the fight this week," head coach Dusty Smith said. "We got off to a rough start as a team, but the guys stayed patient and just kept battling. When you have the right mindset, it allows you to play freely. We knew, if we were patient, good things would happen. We will take this momentum into the offseason and keep writing our story. The team played tough this week, and I'm very pleased with that."
Â
Monday was State's best day of the tournament as a team. The 5-under 288 stands as the Bulldogs' second-best round of the fall against par, trailing only a 7-under day at the Valero Texas Collegiate.
Â
Behind Serra, Garrett Endicott finished tied for 13th at even par. Dain Richie fought his way back into the top 20 on Monday, going 1-under thanks to three back-nine birdies. He finished 1-over for the tournament and tied for 17th. Ugo Malcor also shot under par in the final round, carding four birdies across the back nine to shoot a 71.
Â
Individually, Harrison Davis and Trip Duke both recorded their best rounds of the tournament. Davis was tied for 34th, and both players carded three birdies on Monday.
Â
The Bulldogs will return to action in February at the Watersound Invitational in Panama City, Florida. State will tee it up again on Feb. 17-19 at the Shark's Tooth Golf Course.
