Wesley Named To All WPF All-Star Team Following Rookie Season
October 16, 2024 | Softball
STARKVILLE – Aspen Wesley was named to the All WPF All-Star Team, the league announced on Tuesday evening. The former Mississippi State pitcher had a phenomenal rookie season with the Texas Monarchs on the heels of a breakout senior season for the Bulldogs.
Â
Wesley was one of five pitchers to earn the honor, and the only one not on the league-champion Texas Smoke's staff. The 18-player team consisted of five pitchers, five infielders, three outfielders and five reserves from any position.
Â
"Aspen is very deserving of this honor. It's a testament to how she has continued to elevate her game post-college, and I'm excited to see her future growth," MSU pitching coach Taryne Mowatt-McKinney said. "Leading into her senior season, she truly embraced the role of an ace, trained with confidence and brought that mentality to the circle, which helped catapult her to a professional career."
Â
The Philadelphia, Mississippi, native pitched to a 2.94 ERA in the regular season while making 10 appearances for the Monarchs. She went 3-3 and struck out 27 batters across 47.2 innings pitched.
Â
In her final season at State, Wesley earned a Second Team All-SEC selection after leading the team in appearances, ERA, opposing batting average and wins. She also led the Bulldogs with career highs in strikeouts and innings pitched. She tied the school record with nine wins in SEC play this season, including a no-hitter at Ole Miss, and became the first Bulldog to hold SEC hitters below a .200 batting average in a season. Wesley also closed her career holding program records for NCAA Tournament wins and shutouts.
Â
Wesley is now one of three former Bulldogs now competing overseas. She recently signed to play for the Northern Bandits in New Zealand alongside her former MSU teammate Chloe Malau'ulu. Additionally, Mia Davidson-Smith is playing in the Japan Diamond League for Denso Bright Pegasus.
