Bulldogs Ranked 21st in ESPN’s Way-Too-Early Top 25
September 28, 2023 | Women's Basketball
STARKVILLE – Charlie Creme is talking nicely to Mississippi State women's basketball as he has the Bulldogs ranked 21st in his Way-Too-Early Top 25 poll.
Mississippi State is mentioned in a poll for the first time since Feb. 9, 2021, following an impressive debut season for head coach Sam Purcell. Last season, the Bulldogs went 22-11 and made the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2018-19 season. Purcell guided Mississippi State to a pair of wins in the tournament, including the Bulldogs becoming the first women's program in history to advance to the Second Round after starting in the First Four.
Looking to reload his roster ahead of the 2023-24 season, Coach Purcell dove into the transfer portal and landed a top-three-ranked transfer class nationally. The transfers included Lauren Park-Lane (Seton Hall), Erynn Barnum (Arkansas) and Darrione Rogers (DePaul). The trio averaged a combined 52.6 points per game last season and were all named to all-conference teams last year.
Mississippi State also returned a ton of talent from last year, highlighted by Jessika Carter, who earned Second Team All-SEC honors and SEC All-Defensive Team honors while also being a finalist for the Lisa Leslie Award, given annually to the best center in college basketball.
Mississippi State is now accepting new season ticket deposits, and current season ticket holders can renew their tickets for the 2023-24 season. Based on Bulldog Club ranking, seat locations will be picked during a full reseat starting in early October. Visit HailState.com/Tickets for more information.
Humphrey Coliseum will become one of the nation's premier arenas as major renovations continue ahead of the upcoming season. If interested in making contributions to Humphrey Coliseum, please contact the Bulldog Club at (662) 325-3074.
