September 19, 2023 | Football
Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys are off to one of the hottest starts in the NFL having outscored their opponents 70-10 through the first two weeks of the season.
Prescott opened Sunday's 30-10 victory over the New York Jets by completing his first 13 passes, which was a career-high for the two-time Pro Bowl quarterback. He finished that game connecting on 31 of 38 passes (81.6 percent) for 255 yards and a pair of touchdown tosses.
It was also another stellar week defensively for the Bulldogs in the NFL, racking up five sacks, one interception and a fumble recovery.
In his season debut, Chris Jones notched 1 ½ sacks as did Montez Sweat for the second straight week. The Tennessee Titans' defensive line duo of Denico Autry and Jeffery Simmons also added sacks during their overtime win.
Sweat is currently tied for third in the NFL with three sacks with Autry close behind with 2 ½ over the first two weeks.
MSU's rookies also made an impact last week. Emmanuel Forbes, who departed as the NCAA's all-time career leader in pick-6's, intercepted his first NFL pass while Cameron Young recorded his first two tackles as a professional – one of which was for a loss.
Philadelphia's Darius Slay finished tied for second on the team with six tackles while Eagles' teammate Fletcher Cox scooped up a fumble that he returned for 8 yards.
Logan Cooke had another week of accurate punting, placing four of his five kicks inside the red zone including a season-long 57-yarder. Cooke remains the NFL's active leader with a 43.2 career net punting average.
