BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mississippi State volleyball's Zoe Gonzales earned an SEC weekly honor following the Bulldogs' sweep of the Maroon & White Invite over the weekend.
Gonzales earned the SEC Defensive Player of the Week award, announced Monday by the conference office. This marks her first weekly honor of her career.
"We are really proud of Zoe for her efforts this past weekend," head coach Julie Darty Dennis said. "Zoe is a great player, she loves to block and she put on quite a show this past weekend. We are happy Zoe is here for her final season and really looking forward to seeing what she does as we head into conference play. Congrats to Zoe! Hail State!"
In Mississippi State's return to the Newell-Grissom Building, Gonzales had a dominant showing for the Bulldogs in the opening match of the weekend versus Lipscomb, the graduate middle blocker collected a season-high 10 blocks in the three-set match.
She recorded another five blocks in the four-setter against Abilene Christian in the closing match of the Maroon & White Invite.
