Myrick Earns SEC Weekly Honor

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mississippi State's Lauren Myrick collected an SEC weekly honor following the Bulldogs' sweep of the StarkVegas Classic over the weekend.
Myrick earned the SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week award, announced Monday by the conference office. This marks the first weekly honor of her career.
"I am so proud of Lauren for earning this award to start our 2023 season," head coach Julie Darty Dennis said. "She has worked extremely hard in this new position, and she certainly had a fantastic opening weekend to showcase all her hard work that she has put in. Lauren is the heart and soul of our team, and I am so proud of her for how she is making the most of her final season in the Maroon and White."
Myrick was lights out on Mississippi State's back row as the graduate libero amassed 5.82 digs per set. With Myrick's help, the Bulldogs sit in the No. 2 spot in the SEC in digs with 171 digs and an average of 15.55 digs per set over their three matches. The Louisville, Kentucky native accumulated 64 digs throughout the weekend and she leads the SEC in digs.
State's defense limited its opponents over the weekend to a .111 hitting percentage. Myrick captured a career-high 27 digs during the match against Louisiana. Against Eastern Kentucky, she earned 22 digs and 15 digs versus Northwestern State. On top of her 64 digs, she also secured 13 assists and four aces. Â
Missisisppi State starts the month of September on the road as they travel to Orlando, Florida to take on UCF on Friday at 6 p.m. CT and FIU on Saturday at 4 p.m. in the UCF Challenge.
