#StateToTheShow: Women’s Pro Fastpitch Week 6
July 27, 2023 | Softball
STARKVILLE – Fa Leilua picked up where she left off, adding a solo homer and five walks in the first series of the week against the USSSA Pride.
Combined with her final series of Week 5, it was enough to earn Leilua league-wide recognition as the WPF Co-Player of the Week on July 23. Including that prior series against the Texas Smoke, Leilua batted .500 with six RBIs over six games.
Leilua drew five more walks in Oklahoma City's series victory against the Smash It Sports Vipers to close the week.
Chloe Malau'ulu laid down two sacrifice bunts in the series loss to the Pride. She later played a key role in Oklahoma City's series win at home against the Vipers. Malau'ulu hit a solo home run, her third of the year, in the bottom of the fifth inning of a 4-3 ballgame as the Spark went on to win 7-3. She had also earlier driven in a run with a sacrifice fly to right field.
Oklahoma City and the Vipers also completed their Opening Day game that was postponed, tacking on three more runs to cruise to a 7-1 victory. The Spark (16-10), however, now sit in second place, half a game back from the Texas Smoke (17-10). The Spark again host the Pride, wrapping up their season series on July 28-30. They will then look forward to six straight games against the Smoke to close the season. The teams meet in Oklahoma on August 1-3 to close Week 7 of the season before wrapping up the regular-season slate in Austin on August 5-7.
Annie Willis' season is done following an injury. She will not pitch again for the Smash It Sports Vipers this year. The Vipers will head on the road to meet the Smoke on July 28-30 before traveling to Florida for three games with the Pride on August 1-3. The Pride return the trip to end the year on August 5-7.
