Clark Selected On The Final Day of MLB Draft

Clark was the No. 606 pick by the New York Mets
STARKVILLE – Junior outfielder Kellum Clark heard his name called on the third and final day of the 2023 Major League Baseball Draft, held on Tuesday (July 11). Over the three days, Mississippi State saw three players drafted.
Clark was the No. 606 pick in the 20th round to the New York Mets. He is the twelfth Mississippi State player to be drafted by the Mets and the first since outfielder Rowdey Jordan in 2021.
On Sunday, Colton Ledbetter was selected as the No. 55 overall pick by the Tampa Bay Rays in the second round. Cade Smith was the next Dawg off the board as the New York Yankees selected him as the No. 192 overall pick in the sixth round.
In the MLB Draft, Mississippi State has heard 189 student-athletes' names called at the event for a total of 230 draft picks overall.
Under head coach Chris Lemonis, Mississippi State has seen 29 student-athletes drafted in the MLB Draft, including five going in the first round. Lemonis also has 12 draft picks in the first five rounds during his MSU tenure.
Kellum Clark | OF | Brandon, Miss.
Clark, a Brandon, Miss., native, had a career year during his junior season. He set a career-highs in batting average (.299), runs scored (46), hits (56), walks (28), and stolen bases (6). Opening the season, Clark hit two homers against VMI for the second multi-homer game of his career. On March 11, Clark hit a walk-off home run that lifted the Dawgs past the Bisons of Lipscomb. In the field, Clark tallied five outfield assists on the season. With 16 multi-hit games on the season, Clark finished with the third most on the team.
During the 2023 Southeastern Conference season, Clark elevated his game by hitting .333 in league games. He had an on-base percentage of .425 during SEC play while driving in 17 runs and hitting six homers.
A member of the 2021 National Championship team, Clark's biggest hit of his freshman season came in game three of the NCAA Championship series when he hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning, helping the Dawgs claim the first national championship in school history.
For his career as a Diamond Dawg, Clark appeared in 140 games while making 129 starts. He compiled a batting average of .270 over the three seasons, which included 30 home runs, 30 doubles, and three triples, and collected 88 RBIs. He had a career fielding percentage of .995 and had six outfield assists. Clark did not commit an error over his final two years in the Maroon and White.
