
Crump Earns Podium Finish on Opening Night of NCAA Track Championships

AUSTIN, Texas – Opening night of the 2023 NCAA Track and Field Championships came to a close on Wednesday, with Cameron Crump earning a spot on the podium in the long jump.
Crump, who competed in his final event for Mississippi State, had an impressive showing in the long jump. The senior from Sarah, Miss., jumped 7.91m (25 feet, 11.5 inches) on his opening jump of the night to solidify his placing on the podium with a fifth-place finish. With his top eight finish, Crump earns First Team All-American honors, his first time earning first team honors in the outdoor championships.
Rémi Rougetet also had a night to remember in the javelin with a career best throw of 73.41m (240 feet, 10 inches). In his first NCAA Championships appearance, the junior earned his career best throw in his first throw of the Championship on Wednesday. He improved his lifetime best by 1.81 meters, nearly six feet. Rougetet also earned Second Team All-American honors.
Peyton Bair was impressive in all five events of the decathlon on Wednesday. Bair, one of just three freshmen to earn a spot in the decathlon championship, earned three top-five finishes in the 100m (5th), high jump (4th), and the 400m (4th), with a ninth-place finish in the long jump and a 15th place finish in the shot put. With Bair's strong day one performance, he sits in sixth overall through five events with a point total of 4,212.
