#StateToTheShow: AUX Week 2
June 23, 2023 | Softball
ROSEMONT, Ill. – Mia Davidson-Smith narrowly missed her first career captaincy with Athletes Unlimited, but the former Mississippi State All-American is in prime position, ranking fourth on the leaderboard, heading into the final week of the AUX season.
Â
Davidson-Smith again found herself on the winning side, helping her team to a 3-1 record in Week 2. She is now 6-2 on the season, and her 620 win points are tied for the league lead with four games to play. She also leads the league in runs (9) and combined walks and hit-by-pitches (11). The Bulldog catcher is second in homers (3), slugging percentage (.895) and on-base percentage (.581).
Â
She was hit by a pitch three times in four games this week, and while her opportunities have been limited, when Davidson-Smith has seen a pitch to hit, she's hammered it. She batted .455 (5-for-11) in Week 2, and four of her seven hits this year have gone for extra bases.
Â
Â
Davidson-Smith earned first MVP honors of the season, taking third place in the postgame voting after a 13-3 route of Team Filler on Monday. She was 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and a homer. The previous day, she had just one defensive opportunity but tagged out a go-ahead run at the plate in a tie ballgame.
Â
The final game of the week ended with Davidson-Smith holding a 56-point lead over Jessi Warren for third place, but Warren earned MVP #1 honors in that game for 60 points to edge out State's representative for the final captaincy of the AUX season.
Â
Â
No. 2 overall Aubrey Leach has again drafted Davidson-Smith to her squad for the final week of play. They will wear orange this week and open the series against Team Warren (Blue) on Saturday, June 24 at 3 p.m. CT on ESPN2. On Sunday, Davidson-Smith will meet Team Garcia at noon on ESPNU.
Â
For the third week in a row, she will play her weekly doubleheader on the final day of the week. Davidson-Smith will play at 3:30 p.m. on ESPNU and 6 p.m. on ESPN2 on the final day of the AUX season on Tuesday, June 27.
