State Drops Series At No. 12 Texas A&M
April 18, 2026 | Softball
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – No. 14 Mississippi State was shut out by No. 12 Texas A&M, 4-0, on Saturday as the Aggies claimed the series.
Â
A wet second inning saw Texas A&M (33-12, 13-4 SEC) plate three runs without a hit. The game was eventually delayed for 30 minutes, but the Aggies had already scored twice and loaded the bases with a 3-0 count awaiting the resumption of play. Bulldog pitcher Alyssa Faircloth matched her season-high in walks in that frame alone while also hitting two batters.
Â
"I mean, it's unfortunate. It's unfortunate that we have to pitch in rain and they don't, but, you know, it can't be an excuse," head coach Samantha Ricketts said. "I think we're just not seeing the results, and we feel like we're doing little things right. We're hitting the ball hard. We're having better at-bats. We're not getting the outcomes right now. The biggest thing is just making sure we're staying together and trusting the work we put in and the approaches that we've taken recently, knowing that it's all going to come together at some point for us."
Â
Offensively, State's best opportunity to score came in the sixth after the first two Bulldogs reached on a walk and an error before the next three went down in order. The Bulldogs hit into double plays in both the first and second innings and left two runners on in the third.
