
Lopez Ramirez, Levi Lead Bulldogs Through First Round of Regional Action

Westfield, Ind. – Mississippi State women's golf carded the first 18 holes of the NCAA Westfield Regional on Monday. After the opening round of play, the Bulldogs are in second place (8-Under Par, 280) and one stroke back of Tulsa (9-Under Par, 279).
The Bulldogs held strong throughout the opening round of play from The Club at Chatham Hills behind the dynamic duo of sophomore Julia Lopez Ramirez and Hannah Levi.
Heading into the turn, the Bulldogs sat tied for third before making a climb up the leaderboard in the final nine of the opening round to build a cushion against Michigan (5-Under Par, 283) and Iowa State (2-Under Par, 286).
Lopez Ramirez continues to shine in her sophomore year, carding another round in the 60s to open up regional play. Lopez Ramirez sunk six birdies in the first round to secure her 24th career round in the 60s (5-Under, 67) to lead the opening round. Lopez Ramirez is now tied for rounds in the 60s behind all-time Bulldog great Ally McDonald Ewing for the most in program history.
Senior Hannah Levi has been scorching this spring and that narrative continued on Monday. Levi rolled in five birdies throughout the day, including three straight on holes 5-7 to secure her 9th career round in the 60s with a 4-under par (68) performance. Levi is in a three-way tie for second and is currently one stroke back of Lopez Ramirez for the lead.
After being 3-over heading into the turn, freshman Izzy Pellot soared on the back nine, rolling in a birdie on 10 before carding the Bulldogs lone eagle on the day on 13. Pellot ended the day with consecutive birdies on 17 and 18 to secure her 14th round of par or better golf this season on Monday with a 1-under par (71) performance. Pellot is tied for 13th heading into Tuesday.
Freshman Surapa Janthamunee and senior Abbey Daniel round out the scorecard for the Bulldogs in Round One. SJ finished tied for 41st (2-Over, 74) while Daniel finished tied for 65th (9-over, 81).
The Bulldogs will be paired with Tulsa and Michigan for Tuesday's second round. State will start off from the first tee from 8:06-8:50 AM CT.
About NCAA Regionals:
The Westfield Regional is hosted by Indiana and the Indiana Sports Corp. Conference. The Bulldogs will be joined by some of the most talented programs in the country this week. Joining Mississippi State in the Westfield Regional will be Oregon, Vanderbilt, Iowa State, Virginia, Tulsa, Tennessee, Michigan, Oregon State, Xavier, Lipscomb and Morehead State.
Regional play will take place May 8-10 at six regional sites, with a total of 396 student-athletes competing. All six regional sites will have 12 teams and six individuals. The top five teams (30 teams total) and the low individual not on an advancing team (six individuals total) from each regional site, 156 student-athletes total, will advance to play in the national championships to be played May 19-24 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. Championship play will be hosted by Arizona State and The Thunderbirds, with the final three days of the championships televised live by the GOLF Channel.
