Get To Know Darrione
Darrione Rogers, rated as the No. 19 transfer recruit in the country by ESPN, comes to Mississippi State as a two-time All-BIG EAST performer, most recently earning second team honors during the 2022-23 season. Rogers, who is known as a scoring guard, made huge strides from her sophomore to junior seasons, improving from 9.9 points per game during her sophomore season to 16.8 ppg this past season and finishing as DePaul's second-leading scorer. To go along with the scoring, Rogers also finished third in the BIG EAST in assists per game at 5.1 per contest and led the BIG EAST in free throw percentage at 85%.
Â
In her three-year collegiate career, Rogers has played in 90 games while making 70 starts. She played and started in all 33 of DePaul's games this past season, averaging 16.8 points, 5.1 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. On her way to scoring 555 points as a junior, Rogers also joined the DePaul 1,000-point club, having scored 1,109 career points. During the 2022-23 season, Rogers recorded three double-doubles and one triple-double. Her triple-double, the only one in the BIG EAST last season, came on Dec. 12 against Howard when Rogers scored 22 points, dished out 11 assists and grabbed 11 rebounds.
Â
Prior to her breakout junior campaign, Rogers averaged 9.9 ppg and 5.6 rebounds while averaging nearly 30 minutes per contest as a sophomore. She scored in double-digits 17 times and posted three double-doubles, one of which was a 14-point, 14-rebound performance over then No. 17 Texas A&M. Behind her 62 made triples, she finished second on the team in 3-point percentage at 41%.
Â
Rogers burst onto the scene during the 2020-21 season, immediately impacting the top 25 DePaul squad. She put the BIG EAST on notice after scoring a career-high 25 points against No. 5 Louisville in the Jimmy V Women's Classic. She earned her first double-double against No. 4 UConn with 20 points and 10 boards.
Â
Before attending DePaul, Rogers was ranked as a five-star recruit and the No. 50 overall prospect by ESPN. She scored 2,191 career points and was a MaxPreps All-American honorable mention. She was a two-time All-State performer that averaged 25.9 ppg and 10.0 rebounds per game during her senior season. In 90 career high school games, Rogers averaged 24.3 points, 9.6 rebounds and 3.5 steals.
Purcell on Rogers
"I'm so excited to add a player of Darrione's caliber to our team. She's the second All-BIG EAST player we've signed and has all the tools to be a big-time scorer in the SEC. Darrione can score from all three levels on the court and is automatic from the free throw line. But she also gets her teammates involved. She averaged over five assists last season, so you know she can pass and get her teammates involved. Her elite ability will really open up the court for us and allow us to score from anywhere at any time."
