May 27, 2023 | Track & Field
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Kamaya Debose-Epps etched her name in the record books as the Mississippi State Track & Field team concluded the 2023 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminaries on Saturday from Jacksonville, Fla.
Debose-Epps made some history on Saturday, breaking the school record in the 100-meters with a time of 11.10. The senior from North Carolina broke the previous best time of 11.38 held by Camille Harper (5/29/2001). Debose-Epps finished third in her heat but finished with the ninth-best overall time to punch her ticket to Austin, Texas, and the NCAA Championships.
Less than two hours after breaking the school record in the 100-meters, Debose-Epps was back on the track to run in the 200-meters. Debose-Epps had herself a day, nearly setting another school record in the 200m after running the event in a time of 22.88, 0.07 seconds shy of a setting a school record. Although the time wasn't a record, the time was a season-best for Debose-Epps. With her fourth place in her heat and the 9th best overall time, Debose-Epps punched her ticket to Austin in the 200-meters.
The Mississippi State 4x100m relay team set a new season best in their final competition of the season. The relay team of McKenzie Calloway, Rosealee Cooper, Debose-Epps and Nykah Smith ran a combined 44.52 in the event on Saturday.
