MSU Kids Coach - Blake Stone
May 20, 2023 | Baseball
Kid Coach is a partnership between Children's of Mississippi and the Mississippi State Bulldogs to salute pediatric patients. Their inspirational stories remind us just how truly courageous these young people are.
Â
This week's Children's of Mississippi Kid Coach is Blake Stone of Noxapater, MS.
Â
Blake's journey at Children's of Mississippi started when he was three weeks old as his family and care team learned he had multiple health conditions. Since then, the 12-year-old has been through five brain surgeries, two palate surgeries, nerve graft surgery, a cardiac stent placement, multiple ENT surgeries, tests and procedures. He sees 20 different specialists at Children's. He also has occupational, physical and speech therapy every week. And he does it all with a smile.
Â
Blake's condition is considered undiagnosed, but it affects his muscles and respiratory system. He can't tolerate walking long distances or standing for longer than five to 10 minutes. Fortunately, he recently got a powered wheelchair to give him more independence, and he makes the most of it! He likes to go deer hunting, camping and swimming, among many other activities.
Â
His family says they have been blessed with the best doctors, nurses and child life specialists. They agree that everyone who sees Blake at Children's goes above and beyond.
Â
Blake says when he is older, he is going to drive a UPS truck and open a pizzeria in his hometown of Noxapater. Right now, he loves watching YouTube and playing on his Nintendo switch. And, he loves playing baseball with the Diamond Dreams special-needs league.
Â
Have fun at Saturday's game, Blake. Your friends at Children's of Mississippi are cheering for you!
