David Mershon Named SEC Freshman of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mississippi State's David Mershon was named Southeastern Conference Co-Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.

Mershon helped the Dawgs to a series victory over then-No. 2 LSU in Baton Rouge. He had a pair of multi-hit performances on Saturday and Sunday. For the weekend, Mershon hit .600 and had an on-base percentage of .714. He was perfect on stolen bases with three.

In the series' final game, Mershon went 4-for-5 with two walks and an RBI. He was 2-for-2 on stolen bases in the game. Mershon sparked the start of the rally when he singled for the first hit in the sixth and seventh innings.

Mershon set single-game career highs on Sunday in hits (4), runs scored (3), at-bats (5), and stolen bases (2).

The Bulldogs are back in action as they take on the North Alabama Lions this Tuesday. The first pitch for the contest is set for 6 p.m. and is set to broadcast on SECN+.
