David Mershon Named SEC Freshman of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. โย Mississippi State's David Mershon was named Southeastern Conference Co-Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.ย

Mershon helped the Dawgs to a series victory over then-No. 2 LSU in Baton Rouge. He had a pair of multi-hit performances on Saturday and Sunday. For the weekend, Mershon hit .600 and had an on-base percentage of .714. He was perfect on stolen bases with three.ย

In the series' final game, Mershon went 4-for-5 with two walks and an RBI. He was 2-for-2 on stolen bases in the game. Mershon sparked the start of the rally when he singled for the first hit in the sixth and seventh innings.ย

Mershon set single-game career highs on Sunday in hits (4), runs scored (3), at-bats (5), and stolen bases (2).ย
