STARKVILLE – Mississippi State women's tennis dropped to rival Ole Miss 4-0 on Friday afternoon at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
In doubles, Lillian Gabrielsen and Kesley Mize earned the first win on Court 2 over Maddie Bemisderfer and Gia Cohen, 7-5. On Court 1, Emmanouela Antonaki and Dharani Niroshan defeated the Rebel tandem of Anaelle Leclercq and Ludmila Kareisova 7-6(5) to force Court three to decide the doubles point.
MSU's duo of Sydney Hrehor and Alexandra Mikhailuk went back and forth with Emma Kette and Reka Zadori. The match came down to a tiebreaker with the Rebel's tandem coming out on top with 7-6(6) win to clinch the doubles point.
In singles, Alexandra Mikhailuk fell to Gabrielsen 7-6(2), 6-4 as did Emily Surcey to Zadori 6-2, 6-4. No. 117 Maria Rizzolo dropped to Rebel Kette 6-2, 6-1.
The other three matches went unfinished, with all three courts in the third set. Antonaki took the first set 6-3 against 62nd-ranked Kareisova, but Kareisova came back with a 6-4 victory in the second set. The match went unfinished at 2-3 in the third set.
Bulldog Cohen faced Leclercq and each having won a set before the match was abandoned at 2-4 in the third set. Niroshan took the first set 6-3 and Rebel Rachel Krzyzak taking the second set 6-2, but the match was left at 4-5.
Mississippi State hits the road to Baton Rouge to take on LSU on Friday, April 7 at 5 p.m. CT. A few days later State will travel to Texas A&M to face the Aggies at 12 p.m.
