STARKVILLE – Mississippi State senior Lideatrick "Tulu" Griffin has been named to the 2023 Walter Camp Preseason Football Bowl Subdivision All-America team, it was announced by the organization on Friday (March 31).
Griffin, a native of Philadelphia, Miss., was named to the organization's second team preseason All-America list as a return specialist. In 2022, Griffin led the nation in yards per kick return (32.3) and finished the season with 19 returns for a total of 613 yards and a 92-yard touchdown return. As a receiver for the Bulldogs, Griffin also hauled in 35 receptions for 449 receiving yards and four touchdown catches last season.
For his career, Griffin has 40 kick returns for 1,333 yards and two returned for touchdowns. He has played in 31 games over the course of his MSU tenure.
Walter Camp is the nation's oldest college football All-America team. Walter Camp, "The Father of American football," first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp – a former Yale University athlete and football coach – is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side.
The Walter Camp Football Foundation – a New Haven-based all-volunteer group – was founded in 1967 to perpetuate the ideals of Camp and to continue the tradition of selecting annually an All-America team.
Typically announced in early December, the Walter Camp All-America teams are selected by the FBS head coaches and sports information directors.
Twelve players on the 2023 preseason list, including Griffin, earned 2022 Walter Camp All-America First and Second Team honors.
Mississippi State football will host their annual Maroon and White Spring Game at noon on Saturday, April 15, as part of the 37th annual Super Bulldog Weekend, presented by Pearl River Resort.
