No. 7 Women’s Golf Set to Tee Off from the Sunshine State
March 03, 2023 | Women's Golf
Gainesville, Fla. – The 7th-ranked Mississippi State women's golf squad is set to return to the course for the third event of the Spring portion of its season on Saturday where they will tee off from the 51st annual Vystar Credit Union Gators Invitational. The two-day event will begin Saturday, March 4th, and run through Sunday.
The Mark Bostick Golf Course will set the stage for the 54-hole stroke play event. Located less than a mile from the University of Florida, the Mark Bostick Golf Course is a 1920s Donald Ross design that was artfully rebuilt by Bobby Weed Golf Design in 2001. It was rated as the 24th best campus course by Golfweek in 2020 and has been the home course for the Florida Gator's golf programs since 1962.
The 2023 edition of the Gators Invitational features a talented 14-team field including five teams ranked currently in the GolfStat top 25. Seventh-ranked State is joined by No. 16 Arizona, No. 17 Ole Miss, No. 22 UCLA and No. 25 UCF. Looking ahead into the top-50, State will be joined by hosts No. 27 Florida, No. 32 Clemson, No. 34 Michigan and No. 36 North Carolina State. Augusta, Campbell, Florida Atlantic, Florida International and Miami round out the field.
The 14-team field will participate in a 54-hole collegiate tournament played at the par-70, 6,002-yard Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla. Participants will be playing 36 holes on the first day and 18 holes on the final day. Pairings for each day will be determined by team score. Both days will feature 8:30 a.m. shotgun starts.
State will roll with the same lineup from the first two tournaments of the spring that featured the lowest 54-hole tournament score in program history at the UCF Challenge and a win in their last outing at The Show.
Senior Abbey Daniel will take the number one spot in her 30th career appearance. In The Show, Daniel finished tied for 31st with 6-over par (222).
Senior Hannah Levi will shoot second in her 38th career appearance. Levi led the Bulldogs throughout The Show, leading the way throughout while never dropping out of the top-10. Levi finished third shooting 6-under par (210) to earn her seventh top-five finish.
In her fourth team career appearance, Surapa Janthamunee will shoot fourth. Janthamunee, nicknamed SJ, finished 4-over par, tying for 27th in The Show.
Freshman Izzy Pellot has appeared in every event in her young Bulldog career thus far and will shoot third in Gainesville After two phenomenal performances to open up the spring in the UCF Challenge and The Show, freshman Izzy Pellot was named SEC Freshman of the Week following both events. Pellot picked up her second consecutive top-10 finish, finishing ninth (2-under par) to propel State to their third team victory of the season at The Show. Pellot now has five top-20 finishes in seven events played.
Rounding out the lineup is Julia Lopez Ramirez who is competing in her 20th event in the Maroon and White. Lopez Ramirez carded her 32nd round of par or better golf (70, 2-under) in the final round of The Show to secure her 16th top-20 finish, tying for 12th (even-par).
