Pitching Leads Dawgs Past Lipscomb

Cijntje earned his third victory of the season on Friday night
STARKVILLE – The Mississippi State Diamond Dawgs got a quality start from freshman Jurrangelo Cijntje as they defeated the Bisons of Lipscomb, 8-2, in the series opener at Dudy Noble Field.
Cijntje drew the start for the Dawgs (9-5) and had eight strikeouts in six innings of work while only allowing one run. He earned the win in the contest, his third of the season. Evan Siary came in for relief and pitched the final three innings, tallying three strikeouts to earn the save. The freshmen duo only allowed Lipscomb (5-9) four hits in the contest.
Hunter Hines led the way on the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs. He hit a two-run bomb over the right field fence in the seventh inning and added two doubles. Hines and Colton Ledbetter were tied with the most hits in the game at three. Ross Highfill, Amani Larry, and Luke Hancock contributed with at least one RBI.
Mississippi State is back in action on Saturday at 1 p.m. as they face Lipscomb in a doubleheader. The second game of the day will start approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. The games will be broadcast on SECN+.
