No. 11 Women’s Golf in Third After Record-Setting Second Round
February 06, 2023 | Women's Golf
Orlando, Fla. – Mississippi State women's golf completed a record-setting round of golf from the UCF Challenge on Monday. After the first 36 holes of play, State is third shooting 548 (28-under par). The Bulldogs are three strokes back from No. 2 Wake Forest in second place and six strokes back from the lead, currently held by Northwestern.
The Bulldogs were propelled by strong performances from top to bottom as everyone finished with par or better scores for the second consecutive day, including three players with rounds in the 60s. State carded a 17-under (271) second round, the second-lowest round in program history. 271 moves into the second-lowest second-round in MSU history. The record-setting day was not done there as 28-under par is the lowest score after 36 holes in program history.
Julia Lopez Ramirez captured her second consecutive and twentieth round in the 60s in the Maroon and White to lead State through the second round. Lopez Ramirez picked up right where she left off in the opening round, sinking three birdies on the front nine. This spark would lead to a fire on the back nine once again as Lopez Ramirez rolled birdies on six of the final nine holes of the round to shoot 64 (8-under par). Lopez Ramirez is second, shooting 14-under par. 64 is the lowest individual second round in program history and tied for the second-lowest individual round overall.
Izzy Pellot recorded her second straight round in the 60s on Monday. Pellot sunk five birdies throughout the round, including three on the back nine to card 4-under (68). 68 is tied for the tenth-lowest second-round score in program history. Pellot is tied for 8th with a 7-under par.
Abbey Daniel was the final Bulldog to secure a round in the 60s on Monday. Daniel found her groove on the back nine, sinking back-to-back birdies on Holes 12 and 13 followed by two more on Holes 15 and 17 to secure her eighth career round in the 60s with 4-under par (68). 68 is tied for the tenth-lowest second-round score in program history. Daniel is tied for 16th with a 5-under par.
Hannah Levi recorded her second consecutive round of 71 to lower her score to 2-under par. Levi sat at an even par with only three holes left to play before rolling in a birdie on Hole 16 to climb up the leaderboard for 34th to tie for 25th with 2-under par heading into the final round.
Surapa Janthamunee, nicknamed SJ, finished 1-under par, tying for 34th. Throughout the round, SJ rolled in three birdies and was very efficient throughout the day in the fourth spot for State as she finished with an even-par (72).
Mississippi State will be paired with Northwestern and second-ranked Wake Forest for Tuesday's final round. The Golf Dawgs will have an 8:45 shotgun start. All updates regarding tee times for the UCF Challenge can be found on Twitter and Instagram by searching "HailStateWG".

On the Second Round
"Today was another good day for us. Obviously, Julia is doing an exceptional job leading the way, but the whole team is really doing a good job of staying in the rounds and making strong pushes. You can see that our front nine was a little slow, but I know everybody knew that the golf was still good and there was no need to panic. It just took genuine trust and patience to keep at it and then we saw everything come together for a really good back nine. Tomorrow is going to be a day that requires our best and I know that is something that the team is excited about."
