
Two Bulldogs Tabbed to NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watchlist

DALLAS – Mississippi State pitchers Nate Dohm and Aaron Nixon have been named to the Preseason National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Watchlist. The award is given to the top reliever in college baseball.
In his freshman season at Ball State, Dohm posed a threat to opposing hitters. He posted 56 strikeouts on the year in 15 appearances. Opposing hitters only put up a batting average of .218 against him. Dohm, a starter at Ball State, also showed the ability to go deep into a game. In a start against Miami, he struck out a career-high 13 batters in a seven-inning complete game outing.
Transferring from Texas after two seasons, Nixon comes in as a tenured arm for the Diamond Dawg pitching staff. He flaunts a 3.50 career ERA on 53 appearances. Nixon's tallied 73 strikeouts with 14 saves in his two years while holding opponents to a .213 average. As a freshman at Texas, Nixon was a Freshman All-American and led the Longhorns in saves with nine.
The 2023 season gets underway today at 3 p.m., with the Diamond Dawgs hosting VMI in a three-game series at Dudy Noble Field in Starkville.
Mississippi State's 56-game schedule features 33 home games, 16 road contests, and seven neutral-site matchups. The schedule features a pair of lengthy homestands, as Dudy Noble Field hosts an 8-game homestand to open the campaign (Feb. 18 - 26), followed by nine straight home games from March 21-April 4.
