Class of 2024: Xiane Romero
December 21, 2023 | Softball
STARKVILLE – Xiane Romero, a top-50 prospect, rounded out the Mississippi State softball signing class in November.
Â
Romero was considered the No. 10 prospect in the class by Extra Inning Softball in 2022, and she was labeled the No. 7 middle infielder in the class.
Â
"Xiane Romero is a competitor. She has played for great travel ball teams and won championships all along the way," head coach Samantha Ricketts said. "Z's prowess as a smooth-fielding, athletic infielder brings a versatile set of tools to the plate, the bases and our defense. We are excited to welcome a player of her caliber to our roster, and I can't wait for the impact she will make in Starkville."
Â
The Lake Elsinore, California, native helped guide Temescal Canyon High School to an undefeated record in league play as a freshman while batting .349. She was named all-league that season. After skipping her sophomore season of high school ball, Romero hit .413 as a junior and was named the team's offensive MVP. She hit a pair of walk-off homers in 2023 as well and earned her second all-league selection.
Â
"I picked Mississippi State because of the positive and very homey environment," Romero said. "I knew right away it was the right decision for me."
Â
She won the 2021 Colorado Sparkler and Triple Crown National Championship with Athletics Mercado. Romero batted .459 in the summer following her sophomore year as the Athletics won The Alliance National Tier 2 Championship. Most recently, her club won the 2023 Colorado Sparkler, and she hit .330 this summer.
Â
Mississippi State softball signed nine student-athletes on National Signing Day on Nov. 8. State's class was ranked No. 15 by Extra Inning Softball. Six of the newcomers have been ranked by Extra Inning Softball as top 100 prospects, marking Rickett's largest number of top-100 prospects since taking over as head coach in 2020.
