STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Southeastern Conference and United States Basketball Writers Association announced on Tuesday that graduate student center Jessika Carter earned SEC Co-Player of the Week and Ann Meyers Drysdale National Players of the Week honors.
The conference accolade marks the third time in her career that she has received the honor.
Carter posted three straight double-doubles and averaged 21.7 points, 14.7 rebounds and 3.7 blocks in 33.1 minutes per game over the last three contests to earn the recognition.
In her latest performance, Carter finished with 17 points, 13 rebounds and a career-high tying six blocks in an 81-63 road win over Memphis on Dec. 17. The effort also marked her fifth double-double of the season and the 33rd of her career – a career mark that ranks second among active SEC players. The Bulldogs are now 5-0 this season and 15-0 under head coach Sam Purcell when she turns in a double-double.
Carter recorded 17 points and 18 rebounds - 11 of which were offensive boards - with three blocks while playing all 40 minutes in an 82-72 home victory over Jackson State on Dec. 14. It also was the third time in her career that she has played 40-plus minutes and the second time she has played every minute in regulation.
The six blocks and 18 rebounds marked Mississippi State individual season highs.
Carter returned from a three-game absence due to injury to turn in career-high 31 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks in 30 minutes in a 91-50 home win over Kennesaw State on Dec. 11. The effort was her 10th career effort with 20-plus points and 10-plus rebounds.
Carter is currently posting career-best averages in points, rebounds and blocks with 15.2 points, 9.2 rebounds and 2.2 blocks on 50.8 percent from the field in 30.1 minutes per game. She has now led the team in blocks in seven games and has scored in double figures in all but one of her ten games played this season. Carter ranks fourth in blocks and sixth in rebounds among conference players despite missing the recent three games.
