
No. 25 Mississippi State Hosts Southeastern Louisiana In Friday Night Matchup

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State women's basketball continues its early-season homestand when the Bulldogs host Southeastern Louisiana inside newly-renovated historic Humphrey Coliseum on Friday, Nov. 10 at 6:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.

Friday marks the 13th overall series meeting between Mississippi State and Southeastern Louisiana with the Bulldogs leading 9-3 overall with a 9-1 advantage in Humphrey Coliseum. The two programs last met in an 81-41 win on Dec. 28, 2015 in Starkville.
At the helm of Southeastern Louisiana is Ayla Guzzardo, who is in her seventh season with the program. Southeastern Louisiana returns eight players from last season's historic run, including its top two scorers in Preseason All-Conference honorees Hailey Giaratano and Alexius Horne. The Lady Lions are coming off the program's first 20-win campaign and NCAA Tournament berth last season after winning the Southland Conference regular season and tournament titles.
Southeastern Louisiana opened its season with a 61-30 victory over Millsaps on Monday. Junior center Cheyanne Daniels was dominant in the opener with 22 points and 10 rebounds, team highs in both categories.
Mississippi State returns to action following a 77-42 win over Alcorn State in the season opener at Humphrey Coliseum on Monday. Graduate student forward/center Jessika Carter, senior guard Jerkaila Jordan and graduate student forward Erynn Barnum each recorded a double-double on the night to become the first Bulldog trio to record double-doubles in the same game since Dec. 19, 2021.
Jordan paved the way for Mississippi State with 26 points, career-high 13 rebounds and six steals for the fifth double-double of her career. Graduate student guard Lauren Park-Lane made an immediate impression in her Bulldog debut with a team-high seven assists, surpassing 700 career assists in the performance. The now 705 career assists by Park-Lane now rank second among active players.
Mississippi State never trailed in the contest - leading for 39:49 minutes - and all 11 players played at least seven minutes and scored. The Bulldogs led 41-16 at the break and improved to 21-1 when leading at half under head coach Sam Purcell. Mississippi State out-rebounded their opponent 70-34 and held a 33-5 advantage in second chance points. The 70 rebounds were the most since the Bulldogs recorded 71 on Nov. 13, 2009.
Mississippi State is now 15-2 in home games and 20-1 when scoring 70-plus points under Purcell. The Bulldogs have won 10 or more home games in 11 of the last 12 seasons and have also ranked in the top-20 nationally in average attendance each of the last eight seasons.
Mississippi State remains home this weekend to face Jacksonville State on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. on SEC Network+.
