November 08, 2023 | Women's Basketball
TORONTO – Canada Basketball announced that Mississippi State women's basketball assistant coach Murriel Page will rejoin the Canadian Senior Women's National Team coaching staff ahead of the 2024 FIBA Women's Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournament this week.
Â
"We are excited to have Murriel [Page] rejoin us for our qualification window," head coach Victor Lapeña said. "She brings a wealth of experience as a coach and former player. She is an asset to our players and a perfect addition to this staff."
Â
The path to the Olympic Games in Paris continues for the Canadian Senior Women's National Team at FIBA Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournament, which features the third to sixth place finishers from the 2023 FIBA Women's AmeriCup. Page helped direct Canada to a bronze finish at the AmeriCup, held in León, Mexico this past July. Â
Â
The qualifying event will run from Nov. 9-12 in Medellín, Colombia.
Â
The top two teams from the week will qualify for one of the four respective FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournaments, which are set to take place in February 2024. From there, 16 nations will compete for 10 tickets to the Olympic Games in hopes of rounding out the field with France and USA, who have both already qualified.
Â
Canada will face Venezuela on Thursday, Nov. 9 at 4:30 p.m., host nation Colombia on Friday, Nov. 10 at 7:00 p.m. before concluding play with Puerto Rico on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 3:00 p.m. All times listed are Central and action will be streamed live on FIBA's YouTube platform.
