Bulldogs Blanked By South Carolina

STARKVILLE – The Mississippi State volleyball team fell to South Carolina in three on Wednesday night inside the Newell-Grissom Building.
South Carolina took the first frame 25-21. The second set saw 13 tied scores and seven lead changes, but South Carolina took the frame in extras with a 30-28 win. The
Gamecocks closed out a tightly-contested third set with a 27-25 victory.
The Bulldogs move to 11-13 overall and 4-10 in SEC play, while South Carolina improves to 10-13 overall and 4-10 in conference play.
Karli Schmidt posted a team-high 11 kills on a .300 hitting percentage, with Rebecca Walk adding nine of her own on a .368 clip. Walk also added three blocks on the night.
Sophie Agee followed behind Walk with eight kills, while providing seven digs. Right sides Amina Shackelford and Caylee Sharkey each recorded five kills for the match, with Sharkey earning a .333 mark on her five kills and a team-leading six blocks.
Middle blocker Zoe Gonzales came away with four kills on a .667 hitting clip and three blocks, while Sanaa Williams had five blocks and three digs.
Setters Alexa Fortin Goede and Emily Oerther combined for 36 assists in the match. Individually, Oerther issued a team-best 24 assists, while Goede tallied 12 assists on the night.
Lauren Myrick paced the backcourt defense for State, collecting 12 digs and adding an ace. Defensive specialist Mary Neal provided eight digs and three assists.
Mississippi State returns to action at home on Wednesday, Nov. 15 to face No. 24 Auburn. First serve is slated for 6 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
