Bulldogs Drop To No. 8 Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Mississippi State volleyball fell at No. 8 Tennessee in three on Wednesday afternoon inside the Thompson-Boling Arena.
Tennessee took the first frame 25-21, followed by a tightly-contested 25-23 win in the second. The Volunteers closed out the third set with a 25-14 win.
The Bulldogs move to 12-15 on the year and 5-12 in SEC play, while Tennessee improves to 24-3 overall and 15-2 in the conference.
Amina Shackelford posted a team-high 14 kills on a .500 hitting percentage, with Zoe Gonzales and Rebecca Walk each collecting six kills. Gonzales also added a team-best four blocks in the match.
Sophie Agee and Karli Schmidt each registered five kills, while Caylee Sharkey added two kills and a block.
State's setters Alexa Fortin Goede and Emily Oerther combined for 31 assists. Individually, Oerther led the team with 20 assists, and Goede dished out 11 of her own.
Libero Lauren Myrick sprawled out for 14 digs and added three assists, while Mary Neal followed with 11 digs.
Mississippi State returns home to close out the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 25. The Bulldogs will take on LSU at 2 p.m. CT. State will honor its four seniors before the match. This year's seniors class includes Gonzales, Goede, Myrick and Oerther. Â
