Soccer Dawgs Clock in at No. 21 in Latest United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll
October 24, 2023 | Soccer
Kansas City, Mo. – Mississippi State soccer is making waves in the world of collegiate soccer. Following an outstanding start in October, the Bulldogs have secured a spot in the prestigious Top-25 of the United Soccer Coaches Poll. The No. 21 mark matches the highest United Soccer Ranking in program history as State achieved the ranking in 2022. This achievement comes after a series of remarkable victories that have left their mark on the program's history.
The Bulldog's historic October began with a trip to Gainesville, Florida, where Mississippi State captured their first-ever victory in the Swamp, defeating the University of Florida with a score of 1-0. This momentous achievement set the tone for the exceptional month ahead. Just three days later, State continued their dominant streak by capturing the Magnolia Cup from Ole Miss for the fourth consecutive season, all in front of the second-largest crowd in program history.
After a week's rest, the Bulldogs returned to the pitch for a challenging matchup in Lexington, facing the unbeaten and then-ranked 18th Kentucky Wildcats. In an impressive display of skill and determination, Mississippi State secured yet another victory, winning 2-0 on the road. This marked the second win over a top-20 opponent away from home, further solidifying their reputation as a force to be reckoned with in college soccer.
This incredible string of successes led to Mississippi State being named the NCAA Women's Soccer Team of the Week, a testament to their exceptional performance in Lexington, however, the Dawg's unbeaten streak did not end there. A hard-fought 0-0 draw against Vanderbilt kept the Bulldogs unbeaten before they achieved another milestone by defeating 16th-ranked Alabama on the road to break their 28-game unbeaten streak at home. This crucial win moved their October record to an impressive 4-0-1.
The significance of these victories cannot be understated in the context of the Mississippi State Soccer program. The 2-0 win against the 16th-ranked Alabama marked the first time in the program's history that the Bulldogs have won back-to-back matches against ranked opponents. This win also marked their third victory over a ranked opponent on the road, with the second coming just a week prior in Kentucky.

With this remarkable momentum, the Bulldogs now carry a six-game SEC unbeaten streak into the final game of the regular season. This streak stands as the longest in program history, underscoring the incredible progress and dedication of this year's squad.
A Top-25 ranking in the United Soccer Coaches Poll is not only a testament to the team's success, but also a reflection of the hard work, determination, and dedication of the players, coaching staff, and supporters. It is a historic moment for Mississippi State Soccer, and fans have every reason to be proud.
As the regular season concludes, the Bulldogs are poised for another chance at history. State will travel to Fayetteville for a date with the Razorbacks who have just clinched the SEC Regular Season Championship. The Hogs currently carry a 30-game unbeaten streak into the matchup and are ranked 10th in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25. State and Arkansas is set for a 6:30 PM CT kick and will be streamed via SEC Network Plus.
