Shackelford Named SEC Co-Offensive Player Of The Week
October 16, 2023 | Volleyball
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mississippi State volleyball's Amina Shackelford earned an SEC weekly honor following State's win over No. 14 Florida over the weekend.
Shackelford earned the SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week award, announced Monday by the conference office. This marks her first weekly honor of her career.
"I am so proud of Mimi [Amina Shackelford] for this recognition," head coach Julie Darty Dennis said. "She has been fine tuning her game and working extremely hard in practice to rise up and be just a little bit better for her team and I think we saw her take it to an entirely different level against Florida! Mimi was unreal. She had great shot selection, court awareness and was cool under pressure in some pretty big moments. I hope that we continue to see Mimi score points for us like this. She was great and we will need her to continue to reach our goals this season. I am so proud of Mimi for this recognition and also for the leader and person that she is off the court; well-deserved recognition for sure! Hail State!"
In Mississippi State's historic victory against No. 14 Florida, Shackelford had a dominate showing for the Bulldogs. The redshirt junior led State with a season-high 18 kills behind a .469 hitting percentage and a season-best 20 points, while adding two blocks in the four-set match.
Shackelford averaged 4.50 kills and 5.00 points per set in MSU's first win at home and second win over the Gators in program history. With Shackelford's help, State has accumulated 11.61 kills per set.
The Sanford, Florida native ranks second on the squad in blocks with 54 (0.87 per set) and has helped the Bulldogs be ranked at No. 3 in the SEC standings for blocks. The Bulldogs have totaled 2.50 blocks per set.
State heads to No. 23 Kentucky to take on the Wildcats on Friday, Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. CT. The Bulldogs will then return home to face in-state rival Ole Miss on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. Sunday's match will air live nationally on SEC Network.
