
MSU Records Fall On Final Day Of Bob Pollock Invitational

Freshman Peyton Bair claimed first place and broke the school record with 5,529 points in the men's heptathlon
CLEMSON, S.C. – A pair of school records fell as Mississippi State track and field closed out the final day of action at the Clemson Bob Pollock Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 28) in Clemson, South Carolina.
After finishing Friday's action in first place, Mississippi State freshman Peyton Bair secured the top spot in the men's heptathlon by breaking the school record with 5,529 total points over seven events. On Friday, Bair claimed first place in three of the first four events and followed up by placing first in the 60m hurdles and 1,000m run on Saturday to clinch the record-breaking win. The previous record was set during the 2017 indoor season by Jaquarius Wilson (5,160 points). Bair's 5,529 points is ranked as the sixth-best point total nationally in the heptathlon.
Jhordyn Stallworth also made waves by breaking the Mississippi State indoor school record in the women's shot put with a throw of 15.36m (50-04.75) to finish in sixth place overall. The previous record was held by Alicia Viveros with a mark of 15.33m on Feb. 14, 2020.
In the men's high jump, Tony Jones set a new indoor personal-best for himself with a mark of 2.18m (7-01.75) to finish the event in second place. Jones' jump is tied for seventh in the country following the weekend.
On the track, State closed out the day with men's 4x400m relay, posting a time of 3:05.97, which ranks as the third-fastest indoor time in school history, to finish in second place overall. Lee Eppie, Anthony Brodie, Sema'J Daniels and Gabriel Moronta's combined time of 3:05.97 currently ranks eighth nationally.
Tyrese Reid and Daniel Joyce also recorded top-five finishes in the men's 800m run. Reid finished the race in third place with a time of 1:49.01, while Joyce was right behind him in fourth place with a final time of 1:49.06.
Overall, Mississippi State tallied 15 top-five finishes on the weekend and nine additional individual performances that ranked inside the top 10.
MSU returns to action on Feb. 10-11 when the Bulldogs travel to Nashville to compete in the Music City Challenge.
