Bulldogs Set To Host Friday Doubleheader

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State's women's tennis team is gearing up to face Arkansas State and Jacksonville State in a doubleheader on Friday.

The opening match against Arkansas State is slated to start at 11 a.m. and the next match against Jacksonville State begins at 3 p.m. inside the Rula Tennis Pavilion.

MSU will try to continue its success from the season opener last Sunday. The Bulldogs took down Louisiana in a 5-2 decision and earned a 6-1 victory over UAB. With the two wins, the Maroon and White have won 55 consecutive non-conference matches at home under head coach Daryl Greenan.

In singles play, senior Alexandra Mikhailuk shined throughout the weekend by dominating her matches. Mikhailuk took down both of her opponents in straight sets to start the season.

Emmanouela Antonaki continues to succeed at the No. 1 spot in the lineup for the Bulldogs. Antonaki earned two victories in the season opener to give her 26 career wins at the No. 1 spot.

No. 61 Maria Rizzolo made her spring debut as a Bulldog against UAB. Rizzolo dropped her first set 6-7 (5), but stormed back for the final two sets with a decisive 6-1, 6-2 victories.

In doubles, State won in convincing fashion with the tandem of Antonaki and Gia Cohen taking their opponent down 6-1, while Mikhailuk and Rizzolo dominated their match 6-0 against Louisiana to get the doubles point for MSU.

State is 6-0 all-time against Arkansas State, including a 5-0 record at home. The last match against the Red Wolves was a 5-0 victory for the Bulldogs in Starkville on Jan. 22, 2018.

Mississippi State faced Jacksonville State for the first time last season, where the Bulldogs had a 7-0 victory.

This match will mark Arkansas State's first match of the season, while Jacksonville State is 1-0 after defeating Tennessee State 7-0.
