Men's Tennis Season Ends In NCAA Opening Round

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., – Mississippi State's 2021-22 season came to a close on Friday with a 4-0 loss to No. 18 Stanford in the opening round of the Cambridge Regional on the campus of Harvard University.
The 35th-ranked Bulldogs (14-13) were making their 11th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championship and 30th overall.
MSU's Florian Broska, ranked 17th nationally, won his first set 7-5 and was in a second set tiebreaker with No. 112 Axel Geller when the match was clinched. Broska's season will continue in the NCAA Singles Championship on May 23-28 in Urbana, Illinois.
Bautista Vilicich was the lone Bulldog to reach a third set. Stanford's Filip Kolasinski won the first set 6-1 but Vilicich batted back to take the second frame 6-4. Kolasinski was up 2-0 in the third when play was suspended.
No. 80 Max Basing of Stanford achieved a mild upset by defeating 75th-ranked Nemanja Malesevic 6-3, 7-5. No. 78 Alexandre Rotsaert downed Gregor Ramskogler 6-4, 6-2 and Timothy Sah clinched the match for the Cardinal with his 6-2, 7-6(5) victory against Davide Tortora.
Stanford (18-5) also claimed the doubles point as Basing and Sah defeated Vilicich and Carles Hernandez 6-1 and No. 25 Rotsaert and Arthur Fery won 6-4 against Malesevic and Tortora.
The Cardinal advances to play the winner of host Harvard and No. 4 seed Monmouth on Saturday.
