Crump, Jónsson Punch State’s First Two Tickets to National Championships
May 25, 2022 | Track & Field
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – On the opening day of the NCAA East Prelims, both Cameron Crump (long jump) and DJ Jónsson (javelin) secured Mississippi State's first two tickets to the National Championships. The feat comes only two weeks after Jónsson won gold at the Southeastern Conference Championships. Crump, meanwhile, will now enter Eugene, Oregon, as the leading entry from the east region after his first-place, personal-best jump of 7.97 meters.
Over on the track, MSU's other SEC champion, Navasky Anderson, qualified his way into Friday's quarterfinal race after winning his heat with a time of 1:49.99. The top-three finishers of Friday's heats, plus the next three best times will all secure a spot in the National Championships.
Thursday, May 26:
200m: Javonte Harding, North Carolina A&T (20.21)
Javelin: 1. Marc Minichello, Penn (80.38m | 263-8)
