Yeager Named to SEC Community Service Team

On the field, Yeager leads the Diamond Dawgs this season with a .317 average and 17 home runs
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State second baseman RJ Yeager was honored for his work off the field on Wednesday (May 18) by being named part of the Southeastern Conference's Community Service Team.

Yeager has been active in the Starkville community since arriving as a graduate transfer in the fall of 2021. The Lynn Haven, Florida, native's activities include participating in the annual Salvation Army Red Kettle program and volunteering with the Miracle League, which assists children with disabilities play the game of baseball. Yeager received his bachelor's degree from Mercer in business and has posted a 4.00 GPA while pursuing his master's in Workforce Education Leadership at Mississippi State.

On the field, Yeager leads the Diamond Dawgs this season with a .317 average at the plate, while he also leads State with 17 home runs, 14 doubles and a .677 slugging percentage in his first season in Starkville. He was recently named one of five finalists for the Ferriss Trophy, which is presented annually to the Most Outstanding College Baseball player in Mississippi.

Yeager transferred to State after spending four years as a standout at Mercer and currently ranks first in the SEC with 41 hits and 13 home runs in conference play alone. His .767 slugging percentage in league play tops all SEC players this season. Overall, Yeager ranks in the top five in the SEC in home runs, runs batted in, total bases and slugging percentage.

In a continuing effort to recognize the accomplishments of student-athletes beyond the field of competition, the Southeastern Conference names a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community through superior service efforts.
