Nelson Finishes In Top-20 at Mason Rudolph Championship

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Mississippi State senior Ben Nelson earned a top-20 placement at the Mason Rudolph Championship with a 2-under performance for the tournament. It marked Nelson's season-best finish (T-19th) and his fourth career top-20 finish.

In the final round, Nelson played an even-par score and shot par on 12 holes.

As a team, Mississippi State completed its final round of competition with a team score of 7-over 291. Overall, the Bulldogs closed their time in the Music City at 9-over 861, with was tied for eighth.

As a team on Sunday, the Bulldogs tallied 18 birdies and one eagle in the third round of competition.Â

"We had made too many simple mistakes this week that cost us," head coach Dusty Smith said. "We need to do a better job valuing our golf ball and fighting for every shot. I thought Ben [Nelson] did a nice job stepping up this week. I thought we came up big on our last three holes today. Bottom line is we need to get better at the simple things if we want to be successful. We did not play to our Mississippi State standard this week."

Hunter Logan went for back-to-back birdies on his final holes of the third round to give him a 3-over score on Sunday. Logan tied for 34th.

Ruan Pretorius shot 2-over 73 on Sunday to tie for 41st at 3-over overall. Sophmore Pedro Cruz Silva landed an eagle on Hole 18 to cut his score down to even par on the back nine and 2-over total for the final round. Cruz Silva finished the event at 7-over.

Ford Clegg was 11-over, and individual competitor Jay Nimmo was 12-over for the event.Â

This marked the Bulldogs final regular-season road tournament. Mississippi State will now begin preparations for hosting the Mossy Oak Collegiate Championship on April 11-12 at the Mossy Oak Course in West Point, Mississippi.Â

"I'm excited for the guys to get the opportunity to play in front of the home crowd this week," Smith added. "We need to continue to learn and keep pushing in our preparation and process."
