Purcell Announces Addition of Palmer to 2022 Signing Class

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State women's basketball got a little better on Thursday with the addition of incoming freshman Aniya Palmer, announced by head coach Sam Purcell.
Palmer becomes the fifth member and the second signee out of high school to join the 2022 signing class. She hails from LaGrange, Ga.

Get To Know Aniya
Aniya Palmer is an ultra-athletic forward with guard skills. She can go inside the paint and play big, but she can also stretch the floor and play small. Palmer can create her own shot off the dribble and possesses incredible vision to find her open teammates for the best shot. She uses her length and athleticism to cause immense havoc on the defensive side of the ball, and her aggressive style forces opponents into multiple turnovers. In high school, she played in an up-tempo system that used a lot of full-court press, allowing Palmer to make an impact all over the court.
Palmer, who missed part of her senior season due to injury, entered the 2021-22 season ranked as the No. 3 forward in the state of Georgia, according to various media outlets in the state. She was named the region player of the year after her junior season and earned Second Team All-State honors as a sophomore after guiding her Troup County squad to a 27-2 record and the Georgia Class 4A State Championship game as a sophomore. In the semifinals of the State Tournament, Palmer scored 13 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and blocked nine shots over defending state champions Carver High School. She earned a double-double in the championship game with 13 points and 10 boards. Palmer received plenty of attention from colleges when she arrived at Troup County High School as a freshman, earning scholarship offers from both SEC and ACC programs.

"Aniya Palmer is an absolute steal for us in this recruiting class. She is someone I have recruited since my days at Louisville, and I've been following her career for a while now. A lot of schools didn't see her during Covid, and then an injury caused her to miss part of her senior season, but she'll be fully cleared later this month, and her upside is through the roof. I'm excited for Aniya to get on campus and utilize all our resources, and I have no doubt she will have an impressive career at Mississippi State."
