April 21, 2022 | Track & Field
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Mississippi State track and field program crosses the state line this weekend, traveling to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for the Crimson Tide Invite – hosted by conference foe Alabama. The weekend will be the last road meet of the regular season for the Bulldogs, effectively wrapping up the month-long road swing.
Â
The Maroon and White's Ava Weems and Mary Beth Woodward will be the only Dawgs in action on Friday (9:15 p.m.), competing in the women's 5000m seeded race.
Â
On Saturday, seven MSU student-athletes will hit the track, starting at 3:45 p.m. with Reese Dunne in the men's 800m. Following Dunne, Cathrina Morris (women's), Gabriel Moronta (men's) and Samuel Smith (men's) will all run in the 400m hurdles. Colby Freeman, Clayton Fulgham and Gram Russell will wrap up State's visit to Tuscaloosa on Saturday evening (5:50 p.m.) in the men's 5000m unseeded race.
Â
The Bulldogs arrive to Tuscaloosa with five of their event squads currently ranked in the top-nine nationally:
Eighteen total Bulldogs recorded personal bests in Gainesville, Fla., for the Tom Jones Invitational (April 15-16). MSU also placed 23 total top-10 finishes while at The Swamp. For the second meet in a row, Jhordyn Stallworth broke another record for the women's program, this time in the shot put. Stallworth broke the 16-year-old record by a throw of 15.66m, 0.38m farther than the mark that stood since 2006.
