Bulldogs Fall To LSU At SEC Championship

ATHENS, Ga., – No. 8 seed Mississippi State was eliminated in the second round of the SEC Men's Tennis Championship on Thursday, dropping a 4-1 decision to ninth-seeded LSU at the Dan Magill Tennix Complex on the University of Georgia campus.

The Bulldogs defeated the Tigers 4-3 in Baton Rouge, La., on April 11 but were unable to do the same in the postseason.

Matt Roberts' 34^th-ranked MSU squad now awaits their destination and seeding for the NCAA Championship. The NCAA Championship bracket will be released on May 2.

Davide Tortora earned the lone point for MSU, defeating Joao Graco in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. Tortora has now won four of his last five singles matches.

The Bulldogs (14-12) also picked up a win in doubles as Carles Hernandez and Bautista Vilicich teamed together for the first time since Jan. 23 to down Ben Koch and Nick Watson 6-4. For Vilicich, it was his first action since March 13 due to an injury.

LSU, however, claimed a tight doubles point as Gabriel Diaz Freire and Kent Hunter defeated Nemanja Malesevic and Davide Tortora 6-4 as well as Vlad Lobak and Ronald Hohmann upsetting No. 41 Florian Broska and Gregor Ramskogler 7-5.

After Tortora evened the score at 1-1, the 42^nd-ranked Tigers took the next three points to improve to 15-10 overall.

Boris Kozlov beat Vilicich 6-1, 7-5, Freire downed Hernandez 6-3, 7-5 and No. 42 Hohmann upset 22^nd-ranked Broska in three sets to clinch the match 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
