State Falls To No. 2 Arkansas In Game Two

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Mississippi State (16-12, 3-5 SEC) dropped game two of the series to No. 2 Arkansas (21-4, 7-1 SEC) by a score of 12-5 on Saturday night (April 2) at Baum-Walker Stadium in Fayetteville.

Mississippi State took a 1-0 lead in the first on Kellum Clark's sacrifice fly, but Arkansas put up crooked numbers in the second, third and fourth innings to erase State's early advantage.

The Diamond Dawgs used a total of four pitchers on the night with starter Parker Stinnett (3-1) being charged with the loss after allowing four runs – all earned – on one hit, three walks and two hit batsmen. MSU also used Cam Tullar (1.2 IP), KC Hunt (1.2 IP) and Jack Walker (3.0 IP) in relief.

Arkansas lefty Hagen Smith (5-1) started and picked up the win after allowing three runs on as many hits with seven strikeouts and three walks in six innings. Righthander Gabriel Starks came on in relief for the Hogs to start the seventh and allowed two unearned runs on two hits before Elijah Trest pitched a scoreless ninth inning for Arkansas.

Luke Hancock was 1-for-5 on the night and drove in a pair on a two-run home run in the fifth. Kellum Clark recorded a multi-hit night with a 2-for-3 effort, including a run scored and an RBI. Matt Corder and Lane Forsythe were each 1-for-3 in the contest.
