STARKVILLE – Mississippi State women's basketball head coach Sam Purcell announced the first signee of his head coaching career in Kourtney Weber for the 2022-23 season.
Weber is joining the 2022-23 signing class that features the Mississippi Gatorade Girls Player of the Year, Debresha Powe, who signed with State back in November. Weber will have one year of eligibility as a graduate transfer.
Kourtney Weber | 5-10 | Guard | New Orleans, La. | Ursuline Academy | Florida State
Get To Know Kourtney
Weber comes to Mississippi State after earning a degree in Commercial Entrepreneurship from Florida State. In four seasons with the Seminoles, Weber made 111 appearances with 56 starts during her time in Tallahassee. Weber's best season at FSU came during the hectic 2020-21 covid-19 season, where she enjoyed career-high averages in points (11.8), rebounds (3.5), and steals (1.3). She led the team in 3-point shooting at 39.7% (27-of-68) and tied for the team lead in steals with 23. From her sophomore to junior season, Weber increased her point production by 7.1 ppg and her shooting percentage by nearly seven percent. She scored her career-best 22 points that season against Wake Forest. In her career, Weber reached double-digit scoring in 17 games while competing in three NCAA Tournaments, although it would have been four had covid not ended the 2019-20 season abruptly in March.
Coming out of Ursuline Academy in Louisiana, Weber was a five-star recruit and ranked as the 51st best player in America and 14th best guard in the class according to espnW's Hoopgurlz rankings. She averaged over 23 points per game during her senior season. She was named the MVP of the Division II Louisiana State Championship game, where she combined for 48 points and 25 boards in the semifinals and championship game. Weber finished her high school career with 1,614 points and was named the Louisiana Miss Basketball while also earning 2018 Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year honors. She earned 4A All-State honors in 2016 and was an All-State honorable mention honoree in 2015. She chose Florida State over LSU and Texas A&M.
Purcell on Weber
"Kourtney Weber is someone that I was fortunate enough to recruit in high school and then follow her career in the ACC," Purcell said. "Kourtney will provide a great balance to our roster with her ability to score on the perimeter as well as with her experience on the court. I'm really excited to get her to campus this summer since her best basketball is still in front of her. Kourtney is also someone that will get involved in the community, and I'm excited to watch her interact with our amazing community. Kourtney is just a winner both on and off the court."
