Men’s Golf Set to End Regular Season on Home Course

STARKVILLE – The Mississippi State men's golf program will host the inaugural 2022 Mossy Oak Collegiate Championship April 11-12. The 54-hole competition will be the Bulldog's final regular season tournament.
Mississippi State will host 18 teams at the Mossy Oak Golf Club, a par 72, 7,212-yard course. The field will include No. 3 Vanderbilt, No. 16 Auburn, No. 18 Florida State, No. 19 Ole Miss, and other teams from across the country.
"Being able to play at home, in front of your home crowd, is special," head coach Dusty Smith said. "For this event to be our final regular season event is like a senior day. When you only get one home event a year, this is a really special weekend for everyone. I know we are looking forward to a great week. As far as the golf goes, the guys know the course, and it's kind of like knowing the answers to the test. The hay in the barn, and now it's just time to go do it."
This will be the first time the Bulldogs have hosted their annual home tournament at the Mossy Oak Golf Club. In previous years it was hosted at the Old Waverly Golf Course.
Leading off for the Bulldogs will be Ford Clegg. Clegg has started in every tournament in the No. 1 spot for the Bulldogs this season. He leads the team with a 72.22 stroke average.
Following up will be Hunter Logan, who has started in every tournament this season for the Bulldogs. He earned his career-best finish, a tie for 2nd, at the beginning of the spring season at the Nexus Collegiate.
Sitting at the No. 3 spot will be Ruan Pretorius. Pretorius earned his career-best round and finish this spring season at the All-American Intercollegiate tied for 3rd after shooting a 66 (6-under) in the second round.
Senior Ben Nelson will take the course one last time during the final regular season tournament. This will be Nelson's 20th time suiting up for the Maroon and White.
"It's going to be an emotional week this week," Nelson said. "Last regular season event of my career and being able to do it at home with family and friends will be a memory that I will never forget. The coaching staff has got together a great field for us to compete against, and the course is in great condition for us players."
Wrapping up for the Bulldogs is Pedro Cruz Silva, who has started in every tournament this spring season.
Along with the starting five, five other Bulldogs will be competing individually. William Wann will be making his season debut. Austin Vukovits, Harrison Davis, Jay Nimmo, and Loïc Ettlin all return to action as well.
The Mossy Oak Collegiate is set to play 36 holes on April 11, with the final 18 holes being played on April 12. The competition will tee off with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. CT.
