Dawgs Drop Series Finale to No. 16 LSU

Mississippi State continues their homestand with hosting UAB on Tuesday
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State (18-15, 4-8 SEC) fell in the series finale, 13-3, to No. 16 LSU (23-9, 7-5 SEC) on Sunday (April 10) at Dudy Noble Field.

On a breezy day, five home runs were hit between both Mississippi State and LSU. Two of the three runs by the Bulldogs were home runs from RJ Yeager and Slate Alford, who hit his first home run of his career after coming in as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning.

For the Bulldogs, Cade Smith (4-2) was charged with the loss after allowing five hits, six runs, that were all earned, and five walks during his five innings on the mound. Three Dawgs followed Smith including Brooks Auger, Mikey Tepper and Cam Tullar. Auger came in at the top of the sixth and allowed three runs on four hits during his two innings on the mound. Tepper allowed four runs on four hits in one inning on the mound followed by a 1-2-3 inning by Tullar who allowed no runs and no hits in the ninth.

Offensively for the Dawgs, Yeager (3-for-4) recorded his eighth home run on the year during the first inning and Alford collected his first career home run in the seventh inning. Brayland Skinner and Alford came in as pinch hitters during the seventh inning after Skinner singled and Alford hit a home run to left center field. Logan Tanner collected a multi-hit game (2-for-4).

LSU scored one run on two outs after Brayden Jobert and Tyler McManus walked followed by a Josh Stevenson single to third which advanced the runners on base. Tre' Morgan hit into a double play which scored Jobert.

The Tigers scored five runs to start the fifth after McManus tripled to left center field followed by a Stevenson walk and a Dylan Crews single to shortstop which scored McManus. Jacob Berry singled to right field that brought in Stevenson. Josh Pearson homered to right field which cleared the bases.

LSU increased their lead by one on two outs after McManus singled followed by a Morgan double to right center field which scored McManus.
