Bulldogs Host Sunday Doubleheader

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State's women's tennis team is set to host a doubleheader against Alabama and Alcorn State on Sunday, March 20th, at 12 and 4 p.m. CT respectively.

The 64th-ranked Bulldogs (8-8, 0-5 SEC) fell by a score of 5-2 in their last match to No. 7 Auburn.Â

No. 19 Alabama (12-4, 2-2 SEC) comes into Starkville having lost their last two matches to Auburn and Ole Miss. The Crimson Tide are led by 75th-ranked Loudmilla Bencheikh and 102nd-ranked Petra Sedlackova in singles and the 70th-ranked duo of Loudmilla Bencheikh and Anne Marie Hiser.Â

MSU has won six of the past seven matches against Alabama, including two last year, one during the regular season and one at the SEC Championship.

Alcorn State (4-11) has dropped their past two matches and this will be their first SEC opponent they have faced this year.Â

The Bulldogs are 8-0 all-time against the Braves with the last meeting being a 4-0 win in 2019. Also, every meeting between the two programs has taken place in Starkville.

At home this season, Mississippi State has earned a solid 7-3 record. Also, when State wins the doubles point at home, they are 6-0.

Reigning ITA Southern Region Rookie of the Year Chloé Cirotte earned the first ranked singles win of her career on Friday over No. 114 Carolyn Ansari of Auburn 3-6, 6-2, 1-0(9). Cirotte has also been excelling at the No. 3 spot of the singles lineup as she holds a 6-2 record this spring when playing there.

Alexandra Mikhailuk earned her first SEC win of the season against Auburn's Adeline Flach 6-3, 7-5.

No. 94 Emmanouela Antonaki is 2-1 in singles play in her career against Alabama.
