Women’s Golf Opens 2022 Spring Season in the Sunshine State
February 06, 2022 | Women's Golf
STARKVILLE – The Mississippi State women's golf team will open the 2022 calendar portion of its season on February 7th where they will tee off at the Paradise Invitational for the very first time.
The No. 30 Bulldogs will travel to Boca Raton, Fla. to play 54 holes over two days at the par-72, 6,204-yard Osprey Point Golf Club against a 14-team field. The field consists of hosts Florida Atlantic, No. 6 Florida, No. 41 Vanderbilt, Arkansas State, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida International, James Madison, Loyola, Missouri, North Florida, Seton Hall, South Florida and UTSA.
"We are really excited to continue the fall season into the spring," head coach Charlie Ewing said. "I think that it is really important that you handle the offseason the right way because it is in the middle of your entire golf season. That was the biggest thing that I challenged the team with over the winter was making sure that our mindset was not that we were starting over this spring, rather, we continue improving on what we did in the fall. We played our best golf of the fall semester in our last tournament. Our biggest goal is to begin the spring semester playing some good golf and build from that momentum."
Leading State, junior Hannah Levi will take the number one spot for this event. Levi competed in every event of the fall posting a 73.2-stroke average over five events while having seven rounds of par or better.
Junior Abbey Daniel will shoot second. In the fall, Daniel appeared in three tournaments posting a 75.2-stroke average posting three rounds of par or better.
Redshirt senior Blair Stockett is third in the lineup. In the fall, Stockett competed in all five events posting the lowest round of her career in the 2021 Mason Rudolph Championship with a score of 66 (6-under par).
Graduate Lauren Miller will be competing in her 18th tournament as a Bulldog on Monday and will shoot fourth. Miller appeared in four tournaments during the fall campaign posting an average score of 74.8.
Rounding out the Bulldogs is Freshman Julia Lopez Ramirez, who appeared in all five tournaments in the fall. Lopez Ramirez began her career with a record-breaking performance in the 2021 Sam Golden Invitational. She became the first-ever Bulldog to win in their debut and broke three MSU records including the lowest third-round individual score, the lowest round (both 9-under par), and the lowest score after 54-holes (14-under).
Mississippi State will play 36-holes on Monday with a shotgun start at 8:00 am where they will be paired with UTSA and South Florida.
