Shayla Broughton Earns Second Team All-SEC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After a second-place finish in the women's pentathlon at the SEC Indoor Championships, Mississippi State track and field's Shayla Broughton has been named to the Second Team All-SEC list. Her 4,260-point total became both a new personal best, as well as the second-most points ever in the event in MSU women's indoor history.
En route to her best, overall pentathlon finish, the Bulldog also set a new personal record in both the high jump (1.76m | 5'9.25") and the shot put (12.37m | 40'7").
Broughton's 4,260 points is currently the fourth-best mark in the country for the women's pentathlon and helped solidify her spot at the NCAA Indoor Championships next weekend in Birmingham, Alabama (March 11-12).
"Shayla has had to overcome a lot throughout her career at Mississippi State, so she is more than deserving of such an award than almost anybody I can think of. However, I know she will not rest her head on this and she's looking forward to becoming a first-team Division I All-American in two weeks at the NCAA Championships."
