
Anastasia Hayes Named Finalist for Gillom Trophy

JACKSON, Miss. – Mississippi State's Anastasia Hayes was named one of three finalists for the Gillom Trophy, announced Thursday by the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame.
The Gillom Trophy is awarded annually to the best female college basketball player in Mississippi. Joining Hayes as a finalist is Shakira Austin of Ole Miss and Ameshya Williams Holliday of Jackson State.
This year's winner will be announced during a luncheon at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum in Jackson on Monday, March 7. Hayes will be looking to join the list of Bulldog greats who have won this award as a Bulldog has won the Gillom in six of the last seven seasons.
Hayes was named a finalist after a strong senior season for the Maroon and White. She enters the season's final game tied for the top spot in scoring average in SEC games at 20.9 points per game while ranking third in overall scoring this season at 18.7 ppg. In her lone season at Mississippi State, Hayes has scored 431 points while shooting 47% from the floor. She has recorded 104 rebounds, 71 assists, 33 steals and four blocked shots.
She earned her first career SEC Player of the Week award on Feb. 1 after helping lead MSU to convincing wins over Texas A&M and Missouri. In those two games, Hayes averaged 23 points and six assists. To make the weekend even more special, Hayes recorded her 1,800-career point vs Texas A&M.
Hayes has scored in double-figures in 22 of the 23 games she has played this season, with at least 20 points in 10 of those games. Hayes had a streak of six straight games during SEC play, where she scored at least 20-points per game.

This marks the first year of sponsorship for the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians and the Pearl River Resort. All proceeds benefit the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame & Museum.
