Bulldogs Set For Top 20 Showdown At TCU

FORT WORTH, TEXAS – Following a successful eight-match homestand, Mississippi State's 18^th-ranked men's tennis team hits the road for the first time this spring.

And it's not just any road trip for the Bulldogs. MSU has a top 20 showdown ahead as it takes on No. 4 TCU Friday at 6 p.m.

The Bulldogs head to the Lone Star State with a 7-1 record and riding a four-match winning streak. Mississippi State swept a doubleheader against Tennessee Tech 6-1, 4-0 on Sunday.

Florian Broska, who has a career-best ranking of 20^th in singles, enters Friday's affair as a winner of in a dozen straight singles matches dating back to the fall. Broska is now tied for eighth all-time in school history with 92 singles wins with Mark Thompson (1977-80).

Broska and partner Gregor Ramskogler reentered the ITA doubles rankings this week at No. 32 while the team of Nemanja Malesevic and Davide Tortora debuted at 24^th nationally. Both teams earned a victory over the then 38^th-ranked Tennessee Tech tandem of Mika Berghaus and Elias Grubert earlier in the week.

TCU heads into Friday at 6-1 on the year with its lone loss coming at home against Tennessee 4-3 on Jan. 16. The Volunteers are currently ranked No. 2 nationally.

The Horned Frogs have won four consecutive matches since and are coming off a 4-3 home win against 15^th-ranked Ole Miss on Sunday.

TCU's starting lineup features several ranked players in both singles and doubles. Juan Carlos Aguilar (15), Luc Fomba (44), Jacob Fearnley (52), Lui Maxted (69) and Alexander Jong (109) round out the Horned Frogs' ranked singles lineup. Maxted and Pedro Vives Marcos are currently the nation's No. 3 doubles team while Jong and Maxted makeup the No. 20 tandem as well.

MSU is 3-5 all-time against TCU and have dropped the last three meetings. The Horned Frogs won 4-1 in Starkville last year.

The Bulldogs last win in the series came in 2012 but do hold a victory in the only match in the series held in Fort Worth in 2011.
